October 2007 / Massimo Bruno / Puglia / Otranto
Otranto is a beautiful sea village in the very south of the Puglian peninsula. It is almost more Greek than Italian.* (*until you taste the food)
This was a major strategic point as people rounded the Mediterranean up into the Adriatic. Every one from Venice to Turkey had a vested interest in this area.
Wind and time have carved caves into limestone sea cliffs. The azure water contrasts the red soil. And the blue sky shines over 300 days a year. It is really a beautiful and rustic spot. |
